Directing the musical Disenchanted is like living happily ever after for Michelle Knight.

“So much of my career has been based around this one show,” said Knight.

It was five years ago that she played the leading role of Snow White in Tampa at the Straz. She went on to New York City where the fairy tale continued Off Broadway.

“You know I got to have my face on a billboard in Times Square, I don’t know how you top an experience like that, I stood under it for about an hour and pointed at it,” said Knight.

Knight has now returned to Tampa to direct the same show that changed her life, this time with Mad Theater.

“Bringing it back to the Straz is like the perfect circle for me because I get to revisit the audience that really bolstered us to get it to new York and I get to sit back and watch other people enjoy it from the audience this time,” said Knight.

The performers say having Knight in charge gives them the motivation to follow in her footsteps.

“It’s really awe-spiring to see how she works with us and gets the most and the best out of us,” said Heather Lynn Mendoza who plays Sleeping Beauty.

Disenchanted runs from November 14 to the 24 at the Straz. For tickets or more information go to madtheatre.com or strazcenter.org.
