RUSKIN, Fla. — Three suspects were arrested following an overnight robbery and shooting in Ruskin, deputies said.

The Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office said shortly after 8:30 p.m. on Wednesday, a victim was home in the 500 block of 7th Ave. NE to meet two people.

While at home, two of those people robbed the victim at gunpoint and struck the victim several times during the incident.

The victim was able to leave the home and report it to deputies.

Deputies later went to the home and were looking for the suspects. When they arrived, they heard multiple shots fired toward them from the home.

Deputies took cover, announced themselves as HCSO and demanded the suspects to exit the home, the sheriff's office said.

Miguel Mendiola, 17, Gerardo Rios, 20, came out of the home without incident. They were arrested.

Deputies found an AR-15 style rifle, a 40mm pistol and marijuana inside the home.

No deputies were injured during the shooting.

A third suspect, Isaiah Hernandez, 30, was involved in the robbery but left the home before the shooting incident happened.

Hernandez was later found on Thursday and was arrested during a traffic stop.

“The life of crime these individuals were living caught up to them last night when our deputies showed up at their door,” said Sheriff Chad Chronister. “I am thankful that none of our deputies were hurt after being shot at by these dangerous individuals who have now been taken off of our streets.”

Mendiola was charged with six counts of aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer with a deadly weapon, robbery with a firearm and petit theft. Rios was charged with six counts of aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer with a deadly weapon, in addition to possession of marijuana with intent to distribute, possession of drug paraphernalia and violation of probation.

Hernandez is facing charges of robbery with a firearm, felon in possession of a firearm and petit theft.
