According to troopers, a 2008 Ford Escape traveling westbound on U.S. 92 crossed the center lane for unknown reasons and collided head-on with an eastbound semi-tractor trailer.

The Ford's driver, a 17-year-old boy, and one passenger, a 15-year-old girl, died at the scene. The second passenger, a 14-year-old boy, was flown to Tampa General Hospital in critical condition.

According to an FHP report, none of the teenagers were wearing seatbelts.
