"I'm not going to let somebody die when I can do something about it," said Daniel Sanchez.

As flames poured from this second story apartment unit, maintenance man Daniel Sanchez didn't hesitate to put his own life on the line.

"I heard a woman, she said help, help," said Sanchez.

Sanchez says an 80-year-old woman was trapped upstairs but flames were blocking the stairway and the front door. That's when he decided to scale the back balcony and carry her out.

"She didn't want to go down because she was scared so I said this is your life so help me out," said Sanchez.

"When they brought her down there were people who were not even residents from here who were at the bottom and literally caught her," said Apartment Manager Yolanda Ortega.

The woman was taken to the hospital with minor injuries. In total 8 units were damaged leaving 15 people without a home.

But no one, thanks to Sanchez, lost their life.

"God gave me the strength,"

As for dropping him a raise for his heroic act, his manager didn't hesitate with her response either.

"I hope so, I really, really do," said Ortega with a  laugh.
