HIGHLANDS COUNTY, Fla. — Detectives with the Highlands County Sheriff's Office are asking the public for help in a shooting that sent two people to the hospital.

Deputies say when they arrived at Highway Park Liquors on Vision Street around 4 a.m. they found two men suffering from gunshot wounds. One man who had multiple wounds to his abdomen and lower body was taken to Tampa General Hospital. The other was shot in the leg and flown to Lee Memorial for treatment, authorities say.

The shooting took place in an empty lot behind the liquor store, deputies say. Witnesses at the scene told deputies the suspect left the scene in a grey car, heading north on U.S. 27. However, the witnesses left before giving police their contact information.
