Bomb threat prompts evacuation at AdventHealth Hospital in Hardee County

WAUCHULA, Fla. -- A bomb threat at AdventHealth Hospital in Wauchula prompted an evacuation Friday afternoon.

According to Hardee County officials, the bomb threat came in around 2:30 p.m. and all patients and hospital staff were forced to evacuate to the hospital parking area.

Critical patients were evacuated to hospitals in neighboring counties, officials said.

First responders from Hardee, Highlands, Polk, Desoto, Manatee, Florida Wildlife Commission, and Florida Highway Patrol were on scene. The incident is now under control as of Friday evening.

AdventHealth Wauchula released a statement on the incident:

Today, we received a bomb threat shortly after 2pm and immediately began protocols to ensure the safety of our patients, their families and our team members. We evacuated 25 patients and their family members to a nearby building, and moved several patients in our emergency room to other medical facilities. We routinely perform emergency drills and today put practice into action to keep our patients safe. They are always our first priority.
