A 41-year-old registered sex offender is accused of raping a woman in Crystal River, according to Citrus County deputies.

Steven Cook is now charged with sexual battery and violating probation.

Deputies say on May 16 they responded to a sexual battery call placed by a 55-year-old woman.

During a recorded interview, deputies say the woman claimed Cook raped her.

An arrest affidavit states the woman knew Cook for several years and he had come to the back of her residence to swim in the lake and drink alcohol.

Cook is a registered sex offender.

The woman claims when she tried leaving her residence, Cook grabbed her from behind, forcefully held her against her will and then raped her outside of her home.

Deputies say the woman was then forced into her truck where she was raped once again.

According to deputies, the woman repeatedly told Cook to stop but he did not.

Following the rape, deputies say Cook forced the woman to drive him home.

When the woman got back to her home, she called 911, deputies say.

Deputies say the woman underwent a rape examination which showed she suffered trauma.

A BOLO was sent out and Cook was later found the next day.

Cook denied being at the woman's home and claimed he did not know the woman, deputies say.

Deputies say Cook later admitted to having sex with the woman but said it was consensual.  Cook also admitted he apologized to the woman after having sex with her, deputies noted.

Cook is being held without bond.
