CITRUS COUNTY, Fla. — In the first school board meeting since a Citrus County Middle School teacher was removed from the classroom, there was nothing on the agenda about Dayanna Volitich.

That didn't stop the public from coming forward and voicing their concerns about the teacher who is being investigated for hosting a podcast about white supremacy.

Volitich, a social studies teacher at Crystal River Middle School, claims the podcast she hosts under a fake name called, "Unapologetic" is political satire and exaggerated. She was removed from teaching at the school a week ago after knowledge of her podcast became public.

But after hearing what the podcast says about different races, some people say they don’t like the idea of her teaching children.

"I ask that you terminate her as unfit. Regardless of whether she brought her despicable views into the classroom or not, she’s still unfit for service for any position of authority over children much less children in Citrus County or anywhere else," said Leslie Barras, a concerned citizen, who spoke to school board members during a public comment session of the meeting.

Citrus County Superintendent, Sandra Himmel, says the investigation is still ongoing that’s why no one from the school can speak about it. She says it may be weeks before any decision is made.
