Lecanto man charged with shooting his father

A Lecanto man has been jailed for fatally shooting his father, Citrus County sheriff's deputies said.

James Troy May, 52, has been charged with second degree murder in connection with the death of his father, 89-year-old Jack May, a Citrus County Sheriff's Office news release states.

Sheriff's deputies responded to 3550 W. Starlight Path in Lecanto shortly before 4 a.m. Saturday. They went to the residence in reference to a call of a man shooting his father.

When they arrived, James Troy May told sheriff's detectives his father had been complaining all day Friday, the release states. He went on to say the elder May was angry and became violent toward him. James Troy May told authorities he grabbed a gun and shot his father.

James Troy May fell asleep then called the authorities when he woke up, the release states. He was taken to the Citrus County Detention Center, where he was booked on second degree murder charges.
