Citrus home deemed total loss after lightning strike, fire

INVERNESS, Fla. — Lightning struck an Inverness home on Friday, causing a fire that resulted in the total loss of the home, according to Citrus County Fire Rescue.

Officials were called to the home on South Jean Avenue around 3:28 p.m. They had the fire under control by 3:53 p.m.

Surrounding homes and structures were not damaged, but fire rescue says the home was completely destroyed. No one was home at the time, but one cat died in the fire.

Neighbors told fire rescue officials lightning struck the home during a storm.
