CITRUS COUNTY, Fla. — Authorities and a few concerned citizens in Citrus County freed a dozen manatees trapped in a small canal on Friday.

The canal is located by Three Sisters Springs Trail, according to authorities.

The Citrus County Sheriff tweeted about the rescue as it was taking place, later thanking the deputies and citizens who worked to free them.

"We are happy to report that the diligent efforts of our deputies and some amazing citizens paid off," the tweet read. "The manatees that were trapped earlier in the small canal by Three Sisters Springs Trail were freed safely."
