HERNANDO COUNTY, Fla. — A 5-year-old boy was transported to the hospital as a trauma alert after he was hit by a vehicle while riding his bicycle, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
FHP says that the Spring Hill crash occurred just before 4 p.m. Monday. Investigators say a driver was traveling southbound on Pomona Avenue going towards the intersection of Candia Street when the young boy on his bicycle darted into the roadway.
Troopers say that the driver took evasive action, slamming on his brakes in an attempt to avoid the young boy, but the collision was unavoidable. The boy was thrown from the bicycle onto the roadway.
According to an FHP report, the driver was not distracted at the time of the crash.
The boy was transported to All Children's Hospital as a trauma alert.
No additional information has been released at this time.
