HERNANDO COUNTY, Fla. — A 14-year-old behind the wheel of a car died Tuesday after crashing into a tree in Hernando County, Florida Highway Patrol says.
The crash happened at about 2:30 p.m.
The teen was driving southbound on Laredo Ave. north of Danforth Rd. in a 2001 Ford Taurus, when officials say he failed to negotiate a curve and left the roadway.
The vehicle then collided with a tree. The 14-year-old died of his injuries at the scene. He was not wearing a seatbelt.
