Weather conditions in the mountains of California are such that skiers plan to ski and snowboard right on through the Fourth of July.
The heavy snow pack from last winter has not completely melted in areas such as Squaw Valley, and skiers and snowboarders were taking advantage of the conditions on the slopes.
While most people are out grilling on this Independence Day, they're celebrating a bit differently on parts of the west coast.
The resort reports that this is only the fourth time it has remained open this late in the season.
Resort personnel plan to staff the slopes on July Fourth for the hundreds of skiers expected to ski in July.
