MARYLAND — A Baltimore city public school will be closed on Monday, just three days after a staffer was shot near the lobby during school hours .

On Sunday, the decision was made to close Frederick Douglass High School to "allow time to plan counseling and support for students following Friday's shooting at the school."

Officials say staff will remain on their regular schedules so they may attend meetings, where counseling will also be made available.

Last Friday around noon, 25-year-old Neil Davis entered the front vestibule of the school where he allegedly shot a 56-year-old school staff member following an argument.

Baltimore City School Police officers who were working inside the building at the time of the incident were able to arrest Davis. He was charged with attempted first degree murder and firearms violations.

Detectives were also able to charge Davis with the November 10, 2018 murder of 25-year-old Darelle Yancey.

According to a Shock Trauma spokesperson, the staffer who has not officially been identified remains in serious condition.
