PITTSFORD, New York — A man who hit a child riding a bike in New York last year said he was sorry the boy "rode into" him in a court ordered apology letter, according to Buzzfeed News.

Doug Lamb, 65, crashed his white Range Rover into 10-year-old Julian then left the scene before police arrived, Buzzfeed reports.

The letter, which was ordered by a judge, said:

"Dear Julian, I'm very sorry that you rode into the side of the car I was driving on Friday, September 7th. More importantly, I am glad you didn't need to be treated by the attending ambulance on the day of the incident. Wishing you a safe and happy holiday season. Sincerely, Doug Lamb."

The crash happened when Julian was biking around his neighborhood and he swerved to go around a truck, according to Buzzfeed. That's when his mom says that Lamb came "out of nowhere" and tried to get by Julian.

She told Buzzfeed, "when you see a 10-year-old kid on a bike, you usually wait.”

The judge who ordered the letter scheduled a hearing to discuss it further after Julian's mother complained about the lack of an apology, Buzzfeed reports.

Julian was wearing a helmet and only suffered minor scrapes and bruises, according to Buzzfeed.
