During what was described as a 'vigil' being held in St. Louis for a transgender woman who was shot and killed by law enforcement, a man is accused of driving his vehicle through a crowd of demonstrators Wednesday evening, according to St. Louis Police.

The vigil was held in honor of Kenny "Kiwi" Herring, who was shot and killed by police on Tuesday. Herring was accused of attacking officers with a knife.

Police said 59-year-old Mark Colao stopped, honked and attempted to drive around the demonstrators. Some of the protesters surrounded his car and began hitting the vehicle as Colao tried to drive through the group of demonstrators.

St. Louis Police said three were injured when Colao drove away from the incident.  St. Louis Police said officers attempted to stop the driver who initially refused to stop

St. Louis Mayor Lyda Krewson said that Colao should have gone a different way.

"Come on folks- don't drive into a protest- not acceptable -ever- find another route," Krewson said on Twitter. "Not safe- use common sense. EMS has been allowed thru."

Colao was charged with resisting arrest, leaving the scene of an accident and operating a motor vehicle in an imprudent manner.

Video captured Wednesday's incident.
