Adrian Peterson, the Minnesota Vikings running back accused of child abuse, has been suspended for the rest of the season without pay.

"The timing of your potential reinstatement will be based on the results of the counseling and treatment program set forth in this decision," said NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell in a letter to Peterson. "You must commit yourself to your counseling and rehabilitative effort, properly care for your children, and have no further violations of law or league policy.”

Peterson was indicted by a Texas grand jury and pled no contest. He received probation and community service for the incident, in which he struck his son with a switch.

Peterson, who last played on Sept 7.,was suspended for violating the NFL's personal conduct policy.

He will have three days to appeal the suspension.
