A 44-year-old woman died late Saturday night when she stepped out into traffic on South Parsons Avenue in Brandon and was struck by a Jeep Cherokee.

Cynthia McMillan was wearing all black clothing about 11:30 p.m. when she ran into the northbound lane of South Parson Avenue from the west shoulder of the road, according to the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office. She entered the path of a Jeep Cherokee driven by Selina M. Brunty, 30, of Brandon.

Brunty told sheriff's deputies she did not see McMillan until it was too late. The right front corner of the Jeep struck McMillan, propelling her onto the east shoulder of the road.

McMillan died at the scene.

Brunty stopped immediately.

The Jeep driver was not impaired by alcohol at the time of the accident. However, according to a sheriff's report, alcohol is suspected as a factor in the pedestrian's condition.

No further information has been provided.
