A 20-year-old man was listed in critical condition Sunday after he suffered an accidental gunshot wound to the head, Hillsborough County sheriff's officials said.
Deputies responded to 3220 Saffold Road in Wimauma about 3:40 a.m. Sunday in reference to a shooting, a Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office news release said.
When they arrived, deputies found the man, whose name was not released, injured with a gunshot from a .45 caliber pistol.
The injued man was flown to Tampa General Hospital, where he had surgery.
According to the sheriff's office, about 15 people were attending a get-together at the location when the shooting occurred.
The person who was responsible for firing the weapon may have been loading it when the gun accidentally discharged, the release said. The release did not include the name of the person who fired the gun.
Sheriff's officials said the shooting does not appear suspicious at this time.
The investigation continues.
