Two wrong way driving arrests in Hillsborough County overnight

Two wrong way drivers were arrested in separate incidents in Hillsborough County overnight, the Florida Highway Patrol said. 

The first incident occurred about 11 p.m. Friday on West Hillsborough Avenue near Hoover Boulevard.

A 2005 Nissan Altima driven by Yadixa Rodriguez, 45, of Thonotosassa, was traveling westbound in the inside lane of Hillsborough Ave., approaching Benjamin Road when the car veered to the left for unknown reasons. The Altima jumped the raised median and traveled westbound in the eastbound lanes of Hillsborough Ave. then veered to the right to avoid a crash.

The Altima struck a traffic control signal at West Hillsborough and Benjamin Road. It continued approached other stopped traffic until it collided with the left rear of a 2010 BMW 328I. Cheryl Segreto, 43,the driver of the BMW, was uninjured; her passenger, Karen Slaugenhaupt, 49, sustained a minor injury. 

Rodriguez face charges of driving under the influence with property damage, refusal to submit to lawful test and battery.

The second incident was reported on the Veteran Expressway near State Road 60 shortly after 2 a.m. Saturday.

A Tampa police officer spotted a 2007 Cadillac traveling southbound in the northbound lanes of the Veteran Expressway, a Florida Highway Patrol news release states.

The Cadillac zipped passed the police cruiser, which was headed north in the inside lane.

The Tampa police officer conducted a traffic stop of the Cadillac, driven by Bruce Fernando Green, 58, of Tampa, on State Road 60 west of the expressway.

Florida Highway Patrol troopers arrived at the scene, where they determined the driver was impaired and arrested for driving under the influence.

Rodriguez and Green were booked into the Hillsborough County Jail.
