Plant City police are searching for three men in a white Cadillac who shot a man and a woman during an ambush style robbery.

Police responded to a 911 call around 6:25 p.m. Wednesday about two people being shot.

According to Sgt. Al Van Duyne with Plant City Police, Marshon Shoemake, 25, and a 14-year-old girl, pulled into a driveway on the 1300 block of Tennessee Street and at the same time a white Cadillac with three men pulled in behind them.

The men jumped out with guns and escorted the victims around the back of the home and inside. During the robbery, the victims fought back and were able to jump through a window at the front of the home. In the process, both the man and girl were shot.

“Definitely a scary situation and I credit them for having the hindsight and desire to escape certain danger had they stayed in the house,” Van Duyne said.

Police canvassed the area searching for the three men. Late Thursday, a spokesman confirmed that they don't believe this was a random act.

Stacy Ogletree, who lives a few doors down, was inside when she heard the chaos and rushed out to help.

She says she found her 14-year-old neighbor and another man -- both bleeding and in a lot of pain on the side of the road.

"It was very sad. My heart went out to them. I was crying, I was mad, I was angry," she said.

According to a family friend, both victims should survive.

The girl, who was shot once in the leg, is recovering well. The man is now up and talking. He got shot three times.

"I’ve been here 45 years and we’ve never had anything like this happen on our street. Never," she said.
