Two drivers died in a three-vehicle crash on southbound U.S. 19 in Largo Friday night, authorities said.

The Largo Police Traffic Homicide Unit responded to the multi-vehicle crash shortly before 10 p.m. Friday, the Largo Police Department said.

A 2003 Ford Expedition was traveling south in the curb lane when it left the road and entered the emergency lane.

A 1996 Toyota sedan and a 1999 Toyota van were already in the emergency lane.

Both drivers were outside of those vehicles when the Ford struck the sedan which struck the van, the report said.

Both drivers were transported to a local hospital where they succumbed to their injuries. The identities of the deceased have not been released, pending notification of next of kin.

The driver of the Ford, Cesar Gonzalez-Calderon, was also transported to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The investigation is on-going at this time.
