A 45-year-old Tampa man has been arrested in connection with a fatal stabbing on Nebraska Avenue near Floribraska Avenue late Friday.
Donnie Lee Mathis was being held Sunday in the Hillsborough County Jail on a charge of second-degree murder. He was scheduled to appear before a judge during a first appearance hearing at 8:30 a.m. Sunday.
Tampa police said Mathis is responsible for stabbing a man in the area of the 900 block of East 20th Street and Nebraska Avenue about 11:15 p.m. Friday.
The victim, whose name has not been released, was found near a Checker's restaurant at Nebraska and Floribraska avenues with a fatal stab wound.
Mathis has an extensive arrest record, dating back to 1998, including several stints in prison.
