The Treasure Island Police Department and State Fire Marshal's Office are investigating a suspicious fire that damaged a home on 125th Avenue in Treasure Island Friday.

A fire broke out in the rear porch and garage area of a house at 230 125th Ave. about 10:30 p.m. Friday, officials said.

Firefighters at the Treasure Island Fire Department assisted by firefighting crews from St. Petersburg, St. Pete Beach and Madeira Beach responded to battle the blaze.

The incident began when a  neighbor smelled smoke and spotted fire on the ground level in the rear of the house, said a city of Treasure Island news release.

The neighbor was spraying water on the fire, using a garden hose when firefighters arrived on scene.

Firefighters were able to quickly knock down the fire, containing the damage to the rear porch on the ground level as well as the interior wall of the garage.

No one was injured in the blaze. The homeowner was away visiting relatives at the time.

The nature of the fire is suspicious and remains under investigation, pending forensic analysis.

Anyone with information has been asked to contact Treasure Island police Detective Daniel Savarese at (727) 547-4575, ext. 278.
