Suspicious package content no threat

UPDATE:

No explosive materials were found in the suspicious package found in the 2500 block of 17th Street, authorities. However, no details were provided about why Sarasota police thought the package was suspicious. The scene is being cleared.

ORIGINAL STORY:

Sarasota police officers are investigating a suspicious package in the 2500 block of 17th Street in Sarasota.

The explosive materials unit is en route to the scene. 17th Street is closed between Euclid and Lime.

Shortly before 9 a.m., employees from Hap's Cycle Sales noticed a suspicious looking package in a nearby parking lot and called 911.

A Sarasota police officer, who also is a member of the explosive materials unit, arrived at the scene and determined it was suspicious enough to call out  the explosive materials unit.

At this time, Sarasota police officers are working with members of the Sarasota County Sheriff's Office to examine the suspicious package.

Avoid the area.
