"I thought I heard a noise,” explained South Tampa homeowner Jack Hudson.

That noise came his carport late at night.

"We got lucky. We really did. We know that,” said Hudson.

He believes he startled the burglar who ransacked his truck.

"The glove-box was open. Everything was pulled out. There was stuff in the back all thrown around but there were two gift cards-- a hundred dollar gift card and a fifty dollar gift card sitting right in the center and what we figured out happened is I just scared them off soon enough," said Hudson.

South Tampa neighbors like Hudson are reporting multiple incidents like this one to Tampa Police and posting surveillance video on apps like ‘Next Door.’

You can hear car alarms blaring in the background and see suspicious people canvassing driveways trying to open car doors.

"It made me even more aware to be more careful,” said South Tampa homeowner Beverly Ritchie.

The neighbor who shared this nest cam video lives in Virginia Park but Tampa Police say they've gotten recent reports as far west as the Westshore area.

"You would never want it to happen to you or anyone else,” said Steve Ritchie.

It's a reminder to folks to keep their eyes open and to watch out for each other.

"Never leave anything out exposed, shopping bags, anything someone might think is valuable,” she said.

"So it's a big concern. We try very much to watch out for our neighbors,” said Hudson.
