A 53-year-old man riding a bicycle early Sunday morning on 78th Street was struck and killed by a hit and run driver, authorities said.
The victim has been identified as Johnny L. Arrington, who has an at large address, the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office said.
Hillsborough sheriff's detectives are searching for the driver of an unknown vehicle that struck the bicycle and left Arrington for dead on 78th Street near Eau Claire Circle before dawn Sunday.
The incident occurred sometime between 2 a.m. and 4 a.m. Sunday, the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office's news release said. The vehicle was traveling southbound on 78th Street at the time.
After the hit and run, the motorist left Arrington and his 26 inch red Mongoose Element bicycle in the street.
The vehicle will have front end damage, including at least one busted headlight, likely the right front. Also, there will be damage to one of hte right side tire rims.
