PINELLAS PARK, Fla. — The Pinellas County School District is investigating after a Snapchat video surfaced showing two middle school students fighting after being dropped off at a bus stop.

The 25-second video shows a girl taking off her backpack. She grabs another girl by her hair and swings her to the ground. The video shows one girl hitting the other girl in the head several times.

Lauren Petros gave the video to ABC Action News. She said she rushed her daughter to the emergency room after the fight.

"It was heart-wrenching for me to hear my younger daughter screaming and to watch my older daughter being assaulted the way she was... it's very disturbing," said Petros.

The students attend Morgan Fitzgerald Middle School in Pinellas County. The fight happened off-campus after a bus driver dropped off several students at a bus stop.

"I knew that they were having issues here and there verbally, but I didn't know that this girl was threatening to beat her up or anything like that," said Petros.

Petros claims the one student never should have been on the bus with her daughter. She also claims school officials were aware a fight might happen.

"My younger daughter heard about the fight which she's in 6th grade so she contacted her principal," said Petros.

A school district spokesperson sent us the following statement: "The school is actively investigating this concern and any safety issues will be addressed. Please reach out to law enforcement."

District officials say the fight happened off-campus, making it a police matter.

"I'm sure my daughter had a part to play in it, saying things back, but had the school called me this wouldn't have happened," said Petros.

We reached out to the Largo Police Department to see if anyone faces any charges. A spokesperson said details should be available on Friday.
