A 30-year-old man was critically injured when he was shocked while working on a utility pole in New Port Richey Friday night, authorities said.
The incident occurred when the man's shoulders brushed a live wire while he climbed a pole in the 7000 block of Foxwood Drive, the Pasco County Sheriff's Office said. The name of the victim has not been released.
Fellow utility workers used the victim's safety belt to help lower him to the ground, a Polk County sheriff's news release states.
Pasco County Fire Rescue responded to the scene shortly after 8:40 p.m. Friday and transported the man to North Bay Medical Center in New Port Richey. He was later airlifted to Tampa General Hospital in critical condition.
The victim's current condition is unknown.
