Power outage causes headaches, traffic backups in Pasco

Some 4,000 homes in Pasco County is experiencing a power outage today, authorities said.

The power outage also caused traffic backups on State Road 56, where six traffic signals malfunctioned.

The cause of the power outage is unknown at this time. 

Withlacoochee Electric and TECO are working to restore power to the affected customers.

Residents are encouraged to not call 911 to report power outages unless there is an emergency, Pasco County Fire Rescue Division Chief Shawn Whited said in a news release.

The Pasco County 911 system is receiving a high volume of calls related to the power outage. 

Pasco Fire Rescue has no reports of any damage to any infrustructure that could have caused the outage. 

Whited said resident should contact the power companies for more information related to the outage.
