A Lake Wales man allegedly needed a bed to sleep in for one night.

Dasmel Moore, who turned 18 years old in March, told police he stole a truck to sleep in for the night.

The incident occurred on Sunday. The victim left his truck unlocked and running at the Citgo gas pumps located at 19509 U.S. Highway 27. He went into the gas station and when he walked out he observed someone sitting in the driver seat of his truck and drove off.

The victim contacted law enforcement who then spotted the vehicle on Macey Lane. The vehicle stopped behind the Tire Kingdom located at 4561 Macey Lane and the driver fled from the car.

Moore was soon taken into custody after a perimeter was set up. He told officers he stole the truck because he was homeless and wanted to sleep in it for the night, according to an arrest affidavit. Moore said he was going to drive it to Haines City and find a place to park it for the night.

The affidavit also lists a Lake Wales address for Moore on Scenic Highway North.

Moore was charged with resisting officer without violence, no valid driver's license, and grand theft of motor vehicle.
