The driver of a scooter is dead after a sedan blew through a red light in Clearwater around 1:45 a.m. Tuesday causing a serious crash.

Clearwater police said traffic cameras captured a silver Chrysler Sebring going westbound on Gulf to Bay Boulevard when it failed to stop at a red light at the Belcher intersection. A person on a scooter heading northbound on Belcher died at Bayfront Medical Center from injuries sustained in the crash.

CPD later confirmed the arrest of the Sebring driver, 55-year-old Ronald Siggeman, sighting impairment. Officers believed alcohol was a factor in the crash and expect criminal charges for the driver.

Later in the morning, Clearwater officials confirmed Jerome Keith Smith, 55, of Palm Harbor, died in the crash.

Police are working to release the traffic camera video of the crash, but have not yet done so.

A third car was involved in the incident, but there were no reports of additional injuries or arrests.
