Growth and development in the New Tampa and North Tampa neighborhoods has created a need for a re-shuffling of school boundaries, but since many parents don’t see all schools as equal, there’s now growing unrest among many families over what is being proposed.
Hillsborough County Schools has set up two special meetings to address these concerns.
The first meeting will be Tuesday, March 28, from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at Van Buren Middle School at 8715 North 22nd Street, Tampa. The meeting Tuesday is for impacted families with students attending the following schools:
- MOSI Partnership School
- Forest Hills Elementary School
- Mort Elementary School
- Pizzo Elementary School
- Shaw Elementary School
- Witter Elementary School
- Van Buren Middle School
- Greco Middle School
The second meeting is on Thursday, March 30, from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the Benito Middle School at 10101 Cross Creek Boulevard, Tampa. The meeting Thursday is for impacted families with students attending the following schools:
- Heritage Elementary School
- Hunter's Green Elementary School
- Pride Elementary School
Proposed boundary changes are not final until School Board approval. The School Board is tentatively scheduled to consider the proposed boundary changes at one of their regular meetings in May 2017. If approved, the changes would be effective August 2018.
