Man arrested after deadly wrong way crash

A motorcyclist died as a result of a wrong way traffic crash on County Road 1 in Dunedin Saturday night, authorities said.

Shortly before 9:30 p.m. Saturday, the driver of a 2004 Dodge Durango was traveling northbound in a southbound lane on County Road 1 when he hit a motorcyclist head on, the Pinellas County Sheriff's Office said.

The motorcyclist, identified as 38-year-old John Sorensen of Clearwater, was flown by Bayflite to  an area hospital, where he later died of his injuries.

The driver of the Durango, 40-year-old Kenneth Cabral of Clearwater, suffered minor injuries in the crash, a sheriff's office news release states. Cabral showed signs of impairment and was arrested on a charge of DUI manslaughter.

Cabral was taken to the Pinellas County Jail for booking.

According to sheriff's officials, Sorensen was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.

The investigation continues.
