A murder suspect wanted in Manatee County has been arrested following an attempted traffic stop Tuesday morning in Bradenton, authorities said.
On Tuesday morning, a Bradenton police officer attempted to make a traffic stop on a car driven by Robert Eugene Brewer, according to the Manatee County Sheriff's Office. Instead, Brewer speed away and minutes later crashed his vehicle in the 1300 block of Eighth Avenue East in Bradenton.
Then Brewer jumped out of the vehicle and tried to run away, but was caught moments later.
At about 9:45 a.m. Tuesday, Brewer was arrested and charged with murder. Brewer is a suspect in the Dec. 19 shooting death of Kevin McCants, 27.
Manatee deputies had been searching for Brewer for a while. They believed he was still in the area.
After his arrest, Brewer was taken to the hospital for observation then will be booked into the Manatee County Jail.
