A 39-year-old Tampa man with an extensive arrest record is charged with fatally shooting a woman at a gas station on East Lake Avenue.
Sol William Hoke was arrested early Sunday after a standoff with police and Hillsborough County Sheriff's deputies.
Tampa Police responded to a reported shooting at Tampa Super Shop gas station at 3401 E. Lake Ave. shortly after 11:00 p.m. Saturday.
When the officers arrived, they started life saving measures on 50-year-old Metosha D. Godwin until Tampa Fire Rescue paramedics took over. Godwin died of her injuries.
Hoke, who was known by the victim, was identified and an extensive search began.
He was located shortly after 2:00 a.m. Sunday near 20th Street and Fletcher Avenue in the University Community Area, which led to a standoff. It ended with Hoke surrendering to police.
Hoke was charged with murder in the first degree premeditated and felon in possession of a firearm. He was booked into the Hillsborough County Jail, where he is being held without bail.
Hoke has been arrested more than 20 times in Hillsborough County since 2002, according to Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office arrest records.
