Man, 23, found injured in a Lakewood Ranch park died, death ruled homicide

UPDATE | The Goldstar Club of Manatee County is offering a reward of up to $5,000 for information leading to the arrest of the person responsible for the fatal shooting of Alexander Cherp.

Cherp was found shot multiple times outside of his 2012 grey 4-door Mercedes at Greenbrook Park in Lakewood Ranch in Manatee County Feb. 5. Manatee detectives believe Cherp was shot sometime between 11 p.m. and 11:30 p.m. Feb. 4. 

The reward is in addition to one offered by Crime Stoppers for up to $3,000 leading to the arrest of the shooter.

Law enforcement officials are asking anyone with information to contact the Manatee County Sheriff's Office at (941) 747-3011 or Crime Stoppers at (866) 634-TIPS (8477).

ORIGINAL STORY | The death of a 23-year-old man, who was  found injured in a Lakewood Ranch park early Sunday, has been ruled a homicide, according to Manatee County sheriff's deputies.

An on-duty security guard found Alexander Cherp outside his vehicle in Greenbrook Park in the upscale residential community shortly after midnight Saturday.

Cherp suffered upper body trauma and was taken to an area hospital, where he later died.

Manatee sheriff's detectives said they have developed several leads, but no arrest had been made by Sunday afternoon.

Detectives believe Cherp was targeted.  

Manatee County Schools have notified parents that they will have extra security at nearby schools.
