In the Tampa Bay area, a signature program marking the start of the holiday season is The Junior League of Tampa's Annual Holiday Gift Market.

The 4-day holiday shopping event underway at the Florida State Fairgrounds, 4800 U.S. 301 N., Tampa,  ends today.

In its 13th year, the holiday gift market drew more than 150 specialty merchants from across the country and the bay area, offering unique gift items, a Junior League official said.

The perennial event is the largest fundraiser for The Junior League of Tampa, a nonprofit organization focused on promoting voluntarism to promote childhood education and literacy in the Tampa Bay area.

"This signature fundraiser has become a Tampa tradition and we are thrilled that the community has really embraced this event and look forward to it every year," said Nicole Hubbard, president of The Junior League of Tampa in a statement. "One hundred percent of the net proceeds directly fund our 14 community projects and training programs so it truly is a party with a purpose."

Special events are being held throughout the weekend.
