Baby dies in two-vehicle crash in Plant City

A 4-month-old baby has died following a two-vehicle crash at the intersection of Kirkland and Wiggins roads in Plant City.

Authorities said  Rodrigo Modesto, an infant from Plant City, suffered life threatening injuries as a result of the traffic crash. He was rushed to South Baptist Hospital in Plant City, where he died from his injuries a short time later.

The accident occurred shortly after 4 p.m. Friday when a Chevrolet Silverado traveling westbound on Kirkland Road failed to stop at the intersection of South Wiggins Road, a Hillsborough County sheriff's report states.

The Silverado driven by Peter Tan, 21, of Orlando entered the path of a 2007 Hyundai Sonata driven by Marlene Gomez Rosales, 27, of Plant City, and occupied by thee young passengers, including Rodrigo.

The other occupants in the Sonata were Marinely Modesto-Gomez, 6, and Osvaldo Modesto-Gomez, 3, also of Plant City. Rosales, Marinely and Osvaldo were taken to Tampa General Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

No information was provided regarding injuries to Tan or his passenger, Christian Steve, 15, of Orlando.

No alcohol or drugs were believed to be contributing factors to the crash, officials said.

No charges have been filed, pending the on-going traffic crash investigation.
