2 traffic crashes claim 3 lives in Pasco

The Florida Highway Patrol said three people died in two separate traffic accident in Pasco County overnight.

The traffic accidents occurred less than five minutes apart.

The first accident occurred on State Road 54 at U.S. 41 in Lutz about 2:10 a.m. Saturday, according to the Florida Highway Patrol. A pedestrian was attempting to cross S.R. 54 when he was fatally struck by a 2009 Isuzi street sweeper.

The driver of the street sweeper, Louis C. Yager, 24, of Brooksville, was traveling eastbound on S.R. 54 at U.S. 41 under a green traffic signal when Todd L. Perrone, 48, of Land O Lakes, stepped into the path of the street sweeper, A Florida Highway Patrol news release states.

Perrone was pronounced dead on the scene. Yager was uninjured.

No charges have been filed.

At about 2:13 a.m. Saturday, two people died in a single-car crash on Little Road south of Poe Drive in Hudson.

A 2003 Toyota Tacoma was traveling southbound on Little Road when the vehicle left the road and struck a utility pole. The driver of the Toyota, Constandinos Chilimigras, and his passenger, Rebecca Eva Zehetner, both 51 and of Hudson, were ejected from the vehicle and died at the scene.

Officials shut down State Road 54 at Land O Lakes Boulevard and Little Road near Poe Drive for several hours to investigate both crashes. Both intersections have since been reopened.
