Ava Thomas died of her injuries at St. Joseph's Hospital in Tampa Saturday morning, according to a Florida Highway Patrol report.
Friday afternoon Lacey Thomas of Brooksvile was walking with her 1-year-old son, Spencer, 3-year-old Ava and 6-year- old Tana, along Neff Lake Road in Brooksville.
The Florida Highway Patrol said a distracted driver hit Thomas and her children as they walked along the road.
Authorities said the driver, William Perkins, 26, said he was distracted after dropping his cigarette.
Thomas and her two youngest children suffered injures. Her 6-year-old was not hurt. According to FHP, Thomas was last listed in stable condition at the hospital and Spencer was in critical condition.
Perkins was arrested overnight on a charge of driving while license suspended, resulting in serious injury, and was ticketed for careless driving.
The case remains under investigation.
