This year will be Fruitville Elementary School's 75th anniversary since its opening in 1941.
Sarasota County School District is celebrating today with a ribbon-cutting on new, modern additions to the school.
The event will take place at 10 a.m. today to unveil a new centrally-located 30,000-square-foot, 18-classroom building, new renovations in two existing buildings, a new covered play area and an expanded bus loop.
The first floor of the new building will service children with autism. For the past several years classes for these students have been mostly held in portable buildings. The second floor will be for second and third grade students.
Total cost for renovations was $7.65 million. School starts in Sarasota County on August 22.
