Fla. Dept. of Health: 9 new travel-related cases of Zika in Tampa Bay area

The Florida Department of Health says there are 15 new travel related cases of Zika in the state of Florida. Nine of those cases are in the Tampa Bay area. 

Of the nine new travel related cases, there are three in Pinellas County, three in Polk County, one in Hillsborough County, one in Manatee County and one in Pasco County.

There is also one new non-travel related case in Palm Beach county.

Currently, there are 523 travel-related infections of Zika, 43 non-travel related infections of Zika and 70 infections involving pregnant women.

Officials want to stress that one case does not mean there is ongoing active transmission in that area. 

The Florida Department of Health says they are currently conducting 10 investigations to see if there are additional areas of active transmission in the state.
