OVERLAND PARK, Kan. -- A family of seven climbed atop their roof Tuesday morning to escape the rising waters in southern Overland Park after a night of torrential downpours flooded the area.
Fire officials said the family was safe and in contact with rescue crews.
Crews said they would be waiting for the water to recede slightly before attempting a rescue operation.
Some areas of the metro received more than 10 inches of rain in the overnight storms. At its crest Tuesday morning, Indian Creek broke the record it shattered back in late July.
