The Clearwater Marine Aquarium (CMA) says their staff has been working tirelessly to rescue and rehabilitate sea turtles suffering due to the cold weather conditions. The cold water makes sea turtles vulnerable and unable to function, according to the group.
So far in 2016, the CMA team has seen more than 140 turtles for care -- 69 alive. The team sometimes responds for more than 10 turtle rescues in one day. They say any donation for their sea turtle program would go toward an urgent need for supplies to address the increase in patients.
A release from CMA says the "cold stun" caused by recent cold weather is causing a spike in arrivals. You can learn more about Operation Cold Stun in their video, which is featured in the player above.
