ODESSA, Fla. — At the Odessa Post Office, there is a rush to get those packages in the mail and on their way.
Experts say the post office and other delivery services are already strained because of COVID-related issues, and now the vaccine shipments.
“It’s my 36th year at the post office and every year is a challenge," said post-master Dale Haab.
Haab says good planning will keep things moving smoothly. She says she’s seeing a lot more Christmas cards dropped off this year.
“I think people are wanting to stay home and it’s just an easier way to say Merry Christmas and enjoy the holidays," she said.
Tuesday is the “get there by Christmas” deadline for the USPS ground shipping, along with FedEx and UPS.
After that, you’ll still have other options, but with a higher price tag.
Because of COVID-19, it appears there will be fewer in-person Christmas gatherings.
Some stores moved up deadlines, so it might be too late for online orders.
Christmas Day shipping deadlines:
- December 15: USPS Retail Ground Service
- December 18: First-Class Mail Service
- December 19: Priority Mail Service
- December 23: Priority Mail Express Service
