A 2-year-old is in critical condition after he was pulled from a backyard swimming pool Sunday morning in Clearwater, authorities said.

Emergency responders answered a call at 2043 Buford Blvd. in Clearwater about 10:30 a.m. after the child, Jason Faulkner, was found in the backyard swimming pool, Clearwater police spokesman Rob Shaw said in a news release.

The boy was treated by paramedics at the scene. He was in critical condition that night at St. Joseph's Hospital in Tampa.

According to Shaw, several people were in the house at the time of the incident. Police officers were told the child was in the pool for less than five minutes before he rescued.

This is the second near drowning in as many days in Clearwater. A 1-year-old is recovering after he was pulled from a 55 gallon drum of water in the yard of his family's home.
