The Polk County Sheriff's Office says a meet-up for an online transaction ended in the loss of a life on Sunday night.
According to Deputies, 21-year-old Jeffrey Morrow, Jr., joined a friend to the Family Dollar store located on South Combee Road in Lakeland so that his friend could sell an iPhone he had advertised for sale on the "LetGo" app.
The seller had arranged to meet the buyer in the parking lot of the Family Dollar to conduct the transaction.
After the seller parked his truck in the parking lot, an unknown black male, later identified as Victor Manns, Jr., 25, approached the vehicle, stole the item from the seller and took off running.
Morrow and the seller jumped out of the truck and attempted to chase after the suspect. Morrow had a shotgun in his hand and the suspect shot at him as he was running away. Morrow was shot four times by Manns. One of those shots struck Morrow in the face, killing him instantly.
The seller ran into the Family Dollar and called 911. Morrow was transported to LRHMC, where he was pronounced dead.
Deputies say Morrow recently moved to Polk County from Pennsylvania.
Manns had been previously involved in two other incidents using the "LetGo" app. He robbed two other victims.
Victor Manns, Jr., of Bartow, was arrested and charged with first degree murder and robbery charges.
Sheriff Judd held a press conference and updated the case. Watch the video above.
