PASCO COUNTY, Fla.--Two teens were rushed to the hospital after a car vs pedestrian crash Friday night.

Florida Highway Patrol says an SUV was going down the road on State Road 52 at Chicago Avenue in Hudson and had a green light. Investigators say a 13 and 14-year-old boy were crossing the road despite a red pedestrian signal and went into the path of the SUV.

FHP says the SUV collided with the boys, who suffered critical injuries. Pasco County Fire Rescue confirms the teens were both flown from the scene to the hospital as pediatric trauma alerts.

Jenika Franklin tells ABC Action News she drove through the area minutes before the crash. She says she saw a group of kids near the road and says she needed to go around them to get by safely.

“It could have been my siblings. It could have been my family, and I’m thankful that it wasn’t, but it’s still very scary and very heartbreaking for their families a week before Christmas," said Franklin.
